Recipient of a Crafts Council Setting-Up grant.
From his workshop in Acton, West London, Christopher Hughes has been designing and making contemporary, commissioned pieces of individual, hand-crafted furniture since leaving The John Makepeace School for Craftsmen in Wood at Parnham, Dorset in 1993.
With a background in three-dimensional design, his ethos as a designer and maker is that form should follow function and to let the quality of design and construction express itself through the details of a beautiful piece.
"William Morris summed it up well" he says - " 'Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful'...
I strive to fulfil both of these qualities in everything I make - beautiful, useful and well-made pieces of bespoke furniture that enrich our everyday lives".
He is one of a new generation of furniture designer/makers focussing on the very highest level of quality and bringing the personal, tailored and unique back to a discerning group of clients.
So, why settle for whatever the shops want you to have when you can have the individually designed and handmade, one-off piece of furniture you want?
